You hear this word thrown around the skincare world and in our blogs day in and day out, but what does it mean? You always wonder why having all these antioxidants in your food and moisturizer is good for you.

Antioxidants are nutrients found in food (which are extracted and then put in your skincare line, most probably natural skincare products) to prevent damage that results from oxidation. Oxidation is when oxygen comes in contact with substances (our cells use oxygen all the time) and create free radicals (or by products) that can create damage. Think about a penny, when a penny oxidizes, it turns green. We don't want that happening to our skin so we put antioxidants in our skincare (or eat it) to prevent it or slow it down.

You'll find antioxidants in things like carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, peaches, oranges, limes, green peppers, nuts, seeds, eggs, fish, soy, red wine and many many more things!

So there you have it! Now you know what antioxidants do for your body and your skincare.
